TACTILE STORIES - CRAFT

Participants learned new craft skills, such as basket weaving or embroidery, or utilized their own refined skills such as paper making. Through open discovery, participants intuitively created tactile sensor interfaces with these materials and integrated conductive materials such as copper and metals into their interfaces. They explored the quality of touch such firmly pressing, gently holding, lightly tracing, lovingly cradling, and curiously searching as they designed and crafted their interfaces. An abundance of donated materials heaped onto the table with impromptu gatherings of participants occurring during the day and well into the night. Diekman provided informal guidance on creating and soldering the microprocessors and basic programming in Arduino. The weaving was facilitated by Krista Ellis from the Torres Strait Islands. Materials used was imported raffia.
